From November 1st — Technical Changes to the Reimbursement Program for Test Strips
November 01, 2025 at 05:01 AM
Starting from November 1, 2025, the term "e-Prescription for a medical device" in the eHealth system (ЕСОЗ) will be replaced by "e-Request."
These changes will not affect the process for patients to receive test strips. As before, people with type 1 diabetes can receive test strips either for free or with a co-payment under the reimbursement program.
How to Receive Test Strips under the Reimbursement Program: Step-by-Step Algorithm for the Patient ⬇️
If you are receiving test strips for the first time:
- Visit your endocrinologist.
- During the appointment, the doctor will enter your diagnosis into the eHealth system, create a treatment plan, and issue the first prescription for test strips.
For subsequent test strip prescriptions:
- Contact your family doctor, therapist, or pediatrician.
- They will be able to create subsequent e-Requests based on your treatment plan.
After the e-Request is created:
You will receive a message with the e-Request number and redemption code.
Example message:
"Your e-Request for medical product XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Confirmation code: XXXXX."
If you do not receive a message:
If only your passport details (without a phone number) are entered in the eHealth system, the doctor will provide you with a paper reminder containing all the necessary information.
Receiving Test Strips at the Pharmacy:
- Go to any pharmacy that has a contract with the NHIF (НСЗУ) for the direction "Medical devices for measuring blood glucose levels."
- Provide the pharmacist with the e-Request number and redemption code.
Receive Test Strips for Free or with a Co-payment:
The pharmacist will offer test strips compatible with your glucometer that are listed in the reimbursement program.
You will be able to receive them for free or with a partial co-payment, depending on the model of the test strips and the number of packages.
The validity period of the e-Request is 30 days.
In temporarily occupied territories and areas of combat, test strips may be dispensed on a paper request form.
Since the inclusion of test strips in the reimbursement program (October 2023):
- Over 26,000 patients have received medical devices.
- More than 17 million test strips have been dispensed under the program.
- Nearly 70 million UAH have been reimbursed to pharmacies.
- The program includes 42 types of test strips for measuring blood glucose levels.
